Three (3) recommendations are required; one recommendation must come from an individual involved in a non-school community-based organization that can attest your involvement and contribution to that organization. The Thomas Determan Global Perspectives Leadership Award was established to recognize outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated behaviors focused on "thinking globally and acting locally". Specifically, the Award seeks to educate applicants and others of the themes of global education.
Global Perspectives Education is defined as "the interrelated nature of conditions, issues, trends, processes and events affecting the quality of life on the planet Earth."
The themes addressed in the questions to be completed in this Award are:
1. Global Interdependence
2. Conflict Management
3. Intercultural Competence
4. Environmental Sustainability
5. Human Dignity and Rights
6. Global Leaders’ Outlook and Behaviors
All applicants will be notified by e-mail of their status within 30 days; five (5) finalists will be chosen. All finalists will be expected to participate in a dinner with three Trustees of the Advisory Committee of the Thomas Determan Global Perspectives Leadership Award on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Final award decisions will be made by Friday, April 19, 2014.
